OBGYN Rotation Survey

Answer as many questions as you can. You DO NOT have to answer every question. Please do not forget to answer question #1.

a) Your activity during rounds. What was expected? Are there things medical students can do that will make them more helpful to the team?

If you had the chance to do this rotation again, what would you do differently? For example, you might wish you would have asked for feedback more often or asked about expectations earlier on in the rotation

    Blueprints and PreTest. both real good

    . it’s a fresno thing

    multiple choice. lets of working up and treating common problems
    b) How did you prepare for the finishing exam/shelf exam? c) How would you prep differently if you could do it again?
    reading the above books. would highly recommend any lectures given at the sites

    Have to make sure the team trusts you and sees excitement. they will make or break this rotation. keeping a sense of humor. there are a lot of things to complain about, but at the end of the day, the patient interaction is amazing there and you can learn a lot by being self-directed. few people will make sure you are learning

    about 6-6. 3-4 calls, up to us what we wanted to do and how late to stay
    b) Average and max # of patients a medical student carries at one time?

    .just stay near residents

    6. LIFE ON THE ROTATION (CONT.)

    a) Your activity during rounds. What was expected? Are there things medical students can do that will make them more helpful to the team?
    depends on service. notes on patients, new consults
    b) Advise on how to best care for non-english speaking patients (what to do, what not to do, etc)8)
    not sure how to answer this. really being sensitive to their needs and the frightening nature of it all

    If you had the chance to do this rotation again, what would you do differently? For example, you might wish you would have asked for feedback more often or asked about expectations earlier on in the rotation

    .i would’ve asked for more teaching from the site director at the outset

    got my sense of humor back.
    truly understand how important preparation is for all procedures and never to take risks with someone’s life

    b) How did you prepare: blueprints, uWise questions
    .
    4. PASSING ON YOUR NEW WISDOM
    -make friends with the nurses. they have been there a long time and know a lot.
    -give quick succinct oral presentations
    -definitely meet with your mentor weekly
    -if you dont know spanish, maybe make a cheat sheet of important questions/words for those frequent moments you wont have an interpreter

    5. LIFE ON THE ROTATION
    -except for clinic weeks (which were 9-5) I was there 6:30am-7pm
    -4 call nights (all night) and I slept maybe an hour.
