Special patient encounter p. 34

THE PATIENT ONLY WANTS A PHYSICAL EXAM AND HANDS YOU A FORM TO FILL

- be alert to special situations

- the patient may hand you an insurance form requesting that only certain systems be examined

- the patient will tell you that you don’t need a history

- go ahead and introduce yourself, examine the systems listed, and then leave the room

- No patient note is usually required

- you are required to only fill out the form the patient gave you with the appropriate findings

- in these encounters, the emphasis is on the correct performance of the physical exam, professional and appropriate patient interactions

p. 45 – 51

DIFFICULT AND CHALLENGING QUESTIONS

- I understand your concerns, and that you want to………

- Right now, it is difficult for me to say for sure as I need to run some more tests and once the results come out I will be in a better position to tell you what we are dealing with.

- Is there anything I can do to make you feel more comfortable

- Please bear with me I will very much appreciate your patience..
