1. Gastric emptying of liguids follows a first-order kinetics, with half emptying time equal to 12 minutes.

2. If you drink 500 cc of water, 250cc enters the duodenum by 12 minutes.

3. If you drink 200cc of water, 100cc enters the duodenum by 12 minutes.

4. Liquids have an initial rapid phase followed by a slower phase of emptying.

5. Solids have an initial lag phase followed by a linear emptying phase

6. Half emptying time of solids is <2hours.

7. The larger the solid component, the slower the liquid emptying.

8. Patients with dumping syndrome should lower the amount of liquid consumed with solid meals.
